Barley Street Tavern
Performance Statement

To all of our valued friends and patrons:

It has always been the primary goal of the Barley Street Tavern to host original live music. The Barley Street Tavern has continued to strive for a unique, model for presenting local, regional and national musicians with an outlet for their original creative works. The Barley Street Tavern continues to place emphasis on original works of music performed by the author of the work.

It is well known that works being performed for a public forum that are not by the original author are subject to the copyright laws of The United States of America. Licensing agencies are duly authorized agents to collect fees for such performances. The laws regarding copyrighted/licensed are quite clear. Much effort has been placed into protecting the creative property of musicians. It is respectful and just to not perform copyrighted/licensed works at The Barley Street Tavern.

The Barley Street Tavern has no desire to incur licensing agency fees based upon unauthorized performance of copyrighted/licensed works.

The Barley Street Tavern strictly prohibits the unauthorized performance of copyrighted/licensed works of music.

No cover music is allowed to be performed at the Barley Street Tavern.

The Barley Street Tavern believes in the concept of original creative works. The Barley Street Tavern also believes that an individual has the right to perform their original creative works in a public forum without the burden of monetary fees being assessed for that right.

Performances at The Barley Street Tavern are to consist of original music works and are to be performed by the author of the work. Any performance of an original work not by the author must have the express permission of the author in order to be performed. Performances of copyrighted/licensed must have the express permission of the author in order to be performed. Unauthorized performances of copyrighted/licensed works are strictly prohibited.

It is the long term goal of The Barley Street Tavern to continue to offer a venue where original creative works of music can be performed for enthusiastic audiences. The Barley Street Tavern can not allow licensing agencies to dictate the quality of a creative work in order to assess fees for the privilege of allowing the artist to perform their own original works. The Barley Street Tavern contends that only original works are performed here. It is also contended that original works are the property of the author and as such are not subject to fee assessment by licensing agencies.

Don't allow licensing agencies to dictate control of your music!!

Friends don't let friends play cover music!!
